The game is over but the clock’s still ticking. The Packers’ 21-13 victory over the Houston Texans on Sunday at Lambeau Field didn’t save Green Bay’s season, but it did keep the team’s admittedly thin playoff hopes alive.
The Packers, at 5-6, still have life. If Green Bay’s rather convincing victory generates momentum the Packers have the quarterback, the offensive line and the weapons to put up points. Now it appears the Packers may have an NFL defense, too.

The Packers’ season is fading fast. The frustrating thing is that Green Bay seems powerless, or should I say defenseless, to do anything about it. It’s as if Green Bay is mired in what’s become a four-game relay race: Three down and one to go Monday night at Philadelphia. No matter how fast the Packers’ offense plays it can’t overcome team-wide deficiencies, shortcomings and incompetence.
Nashville is the home of country, the “Music City Miracle” and most recently the Packers’ own “Music City Meltdown.” Unlike last week’s 31-26 stunning home loss to Indianapolis, the Packers appeared to have plenty of energy and effort this time. It was efficiency and execution they lacked.

There’s an old saying in the NFL, “You are what your win-loss record says you are.” The Packers, at 4-4, are painfully mediocre, irritatingly average and shockingly so-so. They are a .500 team. There’s some good, some bad and a whole lot of head-scratching at the season’s halfway point.
No Ty Montgomery. No Randall Cobb. No chance? Not so fast said Aaron Rodgers who gave the Packers every chance to steal a road victory against one of the NFL’s most potent offenses and a bona fide NFC championship contender. Ultimately, it wasn’t enough though.
The Green Bay Packers limp out of their “second bye” week hoping to be rested and reinvigorated. The task ahead is formidable, but the goal no less attainable. The Packers (4-2) have managed to keep hope alive through six. The next 10 will be pesky, if not unpleasant at times, but there exists enough optimism and potential – some realized, most not – to think the Packers can roll into December at 9-3 or better. What happens in the next several weeks is critical.
